Buckeye Union High School recently celebrated the debut of its Unified Choir, a new musical group that brings together students of all abilities in a powerful expression of inclusion and community.
This exciting initiative comes as the school has been redesignated as a National Unified Champion School, recognizing our ongoing commitment to fostering a culture where all students are respected, valued, and actively included. The Unified Choir is a shining example of this mission in action.
Led by Mrs. Coryell (who also teaches Ceramics at BUHS), the group spent seven weeks rehearsing, preparing for a performance that was both musically impressive and emotionally impactful.
βI am so proud of the first-ever Unified Choir performance,β said Mrs. Coryell. βThey spent seven weeks learning their music and performed with expression and musicality. I cannot wait to see how they continue to grow and learn as musicians for the Winter Concert!β
Audience members and families were also deeply moved by the performance. Unified Coach Mrs. Meola reflected, βWhat I got to see and hear that day was unforgettable.β A parent shared, βIt was the best night of my life,β while another remarked, βI didnβt realize the level of inclusion my non-verbal son would have in choir.β
Perhaps most meaningful of all was the feedback from a participating senior Life Skills student, who shared, βIβve never been included like this before.β
The Unified Choir is more than just a new performance group - it is a powerful step forward in our schoolβs mission to create inclusive opportunities where every student can shine. We are so excited to watch this group continue to grow and inspire our community.
